Thanks for 2017

Thank You!

LLST are so fortunate to have the supporters that it does, and to work in such a committed profession and sector. We always worry about thanking people in case we forget anyone but we really are so grateful to each and everyone who has taken part in our events, donated, supported, given advice to, worked pro bono for, volunteered for or otherwise helped LLST in our mission to support free legal advice for the most vulnerable in our communities.

We wanted to especially thank:

Support from the very top of the Profession

One of the best things LLST has achieved is to harness the support for legal advice and pro bono agencies from the highest levels of the profession. Our President and patrons are active. They provide support and most have been out on events during the year. Lord Thomas, Lord Judge, Lord Dyson, and Lord Neuberger  all walked the London Legal Walk.

Many senior judges took part in the London Legal Walk. Mr Justice Haddon-Cave ran "Walk the Thames"  and ran the London Marathon . Lord Justice Gross walked the Thames.

We are indebted to the many managing partners, heads of chambers and other leaders in the legal field who actively attend and support our events, and encourage everyone in their organisations to do so as well.

The senior supporters raise funds themselves and encourage others. That greatly enhances our ability to raise funds. We have to thank all of those supporters and their staff who organise them to attend and are themselves very supportive.

In-Kind Support from Law Firms and Others

In addition to raising funds, firms help the Trust in many ways.

The support we have had from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer again  this year has been incredible - they designed and produced most of the marketing materials for the London Legal Walk and for Walk the Thames. Special thanks needs to go to Sharon Metcalf and Claire Everest for their infinite patience and good humour in helping us. They also hosted one of our training events. Their support in-kind has not only saved LLST a lot of money but also added great value to the process.

The support provided by Allen & Overy, which has been constant across the 14 years the Trust has existed, is crucial to the success of many events and we are very grateful for  that help. Special mention must be made of our wonderful volunteer, Cleuma Nascimento from Allen & Overy who processes and claims all of our offline gift aid for us saving us an incredible amount of time.

Bit10 extremely generously transformed the LLST website (on a pro bono basis) a few years ago and continue to maintain this for us. We can update the site's information quickly and easily ourselves and we hope you have noticed the increased details/photos/sign up forms available.

The Law Society & Law Society Gazette

As well as being main sponsors of the London Legal Walk, the Law Society allow us to use theior rpemises free of harge at the end and provide bottles of water for the walkers while the Gazette put free adverts for our events in whenever possible.

Our Trustees
Our Trustees make the hard decisions about who gets grants. Applications always exceed the funds available and it is a very difficult process.

Special thanks also to Jane Worsey who is our Company Secretary and supports the trustees in their duties, and files our annual accounts.

Our Volunteers
The Trust couldn't possibly achieve all that it does with only three staff members - as hard as we do try!

In addition to the fantastic support provided by law firms, particularly Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Allen & Overy, we rely on a lot of help from volunteers and interns.

Many thanks to Enohi Odogu for maintaining our contact, grant and fundraising management system on Salesforce (who donate the licences for free!).

Our wonderful interns (most volunteering one day a week) this year have been:

  • Thao Truong
  • Karishma Yangandul
  • Molly Kwon Brossman
  • Jiahui Wu
  • Anastasia Kalina
  • Alix Cheeseman
  • Lena Orfali
  • Si Qi Chung
  • Temi Gadu
  • Constance Tait
  • Glen Haynes
  • Shivani Shenoy
  • Artemis Christodoulou
  • Harriet Sutter
  • Megan Moran
  • Santhiya Kalasegaran

Many others help out from time to time including packs of law students who act as stewards for the walks.

Thank you so much to everyone who has helped, supported, donated, walked, baked, shopped, painted, sculpted, ran, climbed, partied, bid, bought raffle tickets, campaigned and supported LLST and the free legal advice sector in 2017.

Please do check out our 2018 events here.
See you in 2018!
